Melatonin is a hormone primarily released by the pineal gland at night, and has long been associated with control of the sleep–wake cycle by helping to establish normal sleep patterns and promote a more restful, relaxing sleep. Melatonin contained in Melatonin complex acts in synergy with other vegetal components such as Valerian, helping to reduce the time needed to fall asleep and improving the quality of sleep in the first hours of rest. The combination melatonin-valerian also helps in the treatment of jet lag, because it rebalances the sleep-wake cycle. The beneficial effect is obtained by taking it just before going to bed. Melatonin complex also contains dried extracts of Passiflora and lemon balm, known for their sedative and balancing effect on the nervous system and for their tonic-relaxing properties. The Escholzia cointained in this supplement has an anti-stress action.
