IMMUNE RESPONSE

Agaricus blazei Murrill is a mushroom originally native to a small village, name Piedade, in the highland areas of Atlantic forest, near Tauape, in the province of Sao Paolo. In the 60's during an epidemiological research conducted by Dr. Ciden, a researcher of the University of Pennsylvania, it was reported a low incidence of degenerative diseases in adults and an increase in longevity in the inhabitants of the Piedade region, compared to those of the surrounding regions. These effects were attributed to the regular intake of this fungus in the diet of the inhabitants of this region.

Agaricus is a medicinal mushroom containing the highest concentrations of β-glucans which act as modulators of the immune response. It has also been attributed protective properties of the liver by purifying toxic substances.
